The question of when I will be able to return to work has been asked more frequently as the days go by... Just a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't even picture in my mind how or when I would return to a 7 hour work day. I just take the next small step, one foot in front of the other.
This past weekend, I spent a few hours out of the house with my sister, Barbara. She and I stopped by her classroom at Bethany School in Glendale so she could pick up some papers to grade. She asked me if I wanted to wait in the car as her classroom is on the second floor. I was actually pretty excited to attempt stairs since I am now 2 months away from the accident and closer to returning to work than I ever dreamed possible. As any of you are familiar with injury or surgery on the knee, going up that flight of stairs was a whole lot easier than going down!
I just realized that I did not post the news about being dismissed from my spine surgeon last Monday, Sept. 8! When he walked in the room, he asked me if I was ready for my freedom. My response was hesitant I think, because I was preoccupied with worry about if my leg wound was infected and also my Aunt Garnet just passed away. Just like he had told me several weeks ago, getting out of the spine stabilizer and having more freedom of movement, I am stronger. We stayed to be seen by my orthopedic surgeon since they share the same office and he assured me my wound was just fine. On the contrary, he said that this many weeks post-op, there was probably no chance of any infection. The more I bend my knee, the more confident I get. I return to the orthopedic office a week from today, Sept. 23. At that time, he will schedule me with a Physical Therapist...
During the past few days, I have had the pleasure of helping out my daughters Christina and Meghan. Yes, I have adopted Meghan and I love her like a daughter. They gave so selflessly for weeks caring for Katie and I...Our power was only out for a little over an hour on Sunday and at this time, they still don't have electric back in their apartment. I was overjoyed to be able to ride over there with a couple of coolers to bring the contents of their refrigerater over to ours. They live on the 3rd floor and I happily walked up the steps! Christina works for Americorp (sp?) in Cincinnati Public School district, so she's had the past couple of days off. It's been so much fun to have a slumber party atmosphere at my house instead of a recovery room! Just after Katie posted her last entry, we found out that her new wheelchair could be here any day, not weeks! Yesterday she spent the afternoon at the Student Union, where they found a plug to charge her scooter, a few cell phones and do some homework on a laptop...Today, her power is back on in her apartment.
Last but not least, an officer from the Springfield Township Police Dept. called last Friday afternoon to let us know that our case went to the Grand Jury yesterday...
Pray for justice to be swift and complete.
Believe with me that one day, all of our hearts will be healed.
You are loved with an everlasting love - Dona Sue
