Times Like These

In mom's last post, she raised the question of; How do I get from here to there? Well, that's a good question...and what's the answer? Not sure, yet. But I do have to remind myself that when, for example, I look upon the above picture which was taken by Christina a couple weeks from the accident I have certainly come a long way. In the beginning, I didn't have the desire or physical capability to even get out of bed or off the couch. Then, as the days went by and turned into weeks I had the desire to get up and move around. Yet I lacked the physical capability to independently get from the couch to another seat in the house.
Having to accept the fact that I needed the assistance of another person, whether it be Dan, Christina or Jessica began to really make me feel like I'd never see the day that I'd be back at school handling a busy 16 credit hour schedule with the addition of work two nights a week and other miscellaneous activities. But what am I doing? Entering the 3rd week of school and even though I've had my trying days, I am handling it!
How am I handling it? Well, day by day. I have seen a therapist once since I've been back to campus and I am amazed at how I have been expressing my most recent emotions. This past Thursday, when I received the news that we were still unsure of whether or not I'd get my wheelchair this weekend, I came to the point where I was able to be emotional without hesitation. By the way, Dad just called and said that he and mom were getting ready to leave Cincinnati, with the chair! YAY!
Each day, I have been surrounded by my closest friends, who have also helped me handle the burden of dealing with all the post stress that I am experiencing. I don't know how they do it but they, Jessica Heath and Shannon Mac, hear me out everytime I am overwhelmed and in return give me the reassurance and confidence that, I CAN DO IT!
In closing, let me paint a mental picture for you. On many occasions, I have stumbled across Dan strumming on one of Dad's guitars to various songs. One of his favorite singers is Jack Johnson. He has a song entitled, Times Like These. The following is an excerpt from that very song...
"And there will always be stop and go and fast and slow. Action, Reaction, sticks and stones and broken bones. Those for peace and those for war. And God bless these ones, not those ones. But these ones made times like these. And times like those. What will be will be. And so it goes. And it always goes on and on...On and on it goes."
