Great news!
Dona was sent home from the hospital just hours ago and is resting comfortably in her own living room. While her mobility is still very limited, she has been able to get out of bed by herself and walk to the bathroom. This takes a good deal of effort and just one trip wears her out.
The doctors have taken her off the narcotic painkillers and are providing prescription level ibuprofen to ease her pain.
In addition to the upper left arm fracture (humerus) and the right leg laceration, she also sustained a few minor rib and spine fractures. She is wearing a back brace to ensure proper healing of these bones. Her right leg is in a knee immobilizer brace but she is able to walk on it and bear as much weight as is tolerable. The laceration below her right knee will take some time to heal and is causing some significant swelling right now which will lessen in a few days.
She has been assigned a nurse who will come to the house and stay with her over the next few days to change the dressing on her leg and arm. She will also show the family how to properly care for Dona in the home.
The doctors are closely watching her blood pressure right now as she has been experiencing some hypertension. She is not quite ready to receive phone calls yet but wants you all to know how grateful she is that you have sent your love, support, and prayers.
Kate is doing beautifully....so happy to have her mom home with her now.
Love to you all,
Barbara Ann
