Read about Bruce and the fancy new undies

After spending Friday and Saturday with Dona and Kate, I am so relieved. Both of them are making such great progress. Dona's mobility, given the injuries she sustained, is just amazing and her resilience, an inspiration. Though her right leg is completely braced and unbendable, she has been able to make her way around the house and the doctors are encouraging her to do just that.

She is so strong and has been talking up a storm and directing all of us from her cozy armchair!

Huge numbers of friends and family members have been sending their love and prayers as well as visiting. The house is filled with flowers, love, laughter, and warmth. Just what is needed. It was an absolute privilege to be a part of it and I can't wait to return to my little sister's side once again....what a loving family they've created.

Dona's blood pressure is higher than it should be, but the visiting nurse assured us this is a natural part of the healing process given her body is working overtime to repair itself. The back brace, which has to be worn at all times, (and we lovingly refer to as "Bruce") will be her constant companion for at least 3 months. As you can imagine, having to be constrained in this manner, will get old very quickly and we are looking for some creative ways to make it bearable for Dona.... any ideas?

Much of those two days I was there, we were looking for ways to keep the humor going. When Steve bought Dona some fancy new undies, we girls thought a fashion show was in order, so we put them on our heads....too bad we didn't have a camera handy for that one!

Another visiting nurse will be there tomorrow. I'm back in DC now and have one more week of work here, then returning to Cincy on August 15.

Love to you all,

Barbara Ann
